CLIENT REVIEWS

In Their Own Words

AM

Ahmad Mukhriz

Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur

My grandfather's Omega came back running about five seconds a day after the overhaul — it hadn't been right in years. What I appreciated most was the condition report they gave before any work was done. I didn't feel pushed into anything. The invoice showed exactly what parts were renewed.

Siew Ling Tan

Petaling Jaya, Selangor

I brought in my father's chronograph — a piece with sentimental value and some collector interest. Rashid explained the gear train audit in plain language and called me before touching the crown finish. The service file with photographs is genuinely something I hadn't expected. Thorough people.

Complication Restoration · February 2025

Mont Kiara, Kuala Lumpur

Started with the RM 140 assessment for a watch I'd inherited. The written plan was remarkably clear — it told me what needed doing immediately, what could wait, and roughly what each part would cost. I ended up deferring two items and proceeding with just the cleaning and gaskets. That felt honest.

Cheras, Kuala Lumpur

This was my third overhaul with Bumi Detik over several years. The consistency is what keeps me coming back — the same attention, the same level of documentation, the same clarity on what was done and why. The watch runs within four seconds a day now, which for a 1970s automatic is about as good as it gets.

I was nervous about handing over a watch with family significance. Kian Wei was reassuring without being over-the-top — he explained the process clearly and gave me a receipt the moment the watch was received. The turnaround was two weeks as stated. No chasing required.

I used the assessment before deciding on a restoration for a perpetual calendar acquired at auction. The written plan gave me enough to make an informed decision — and the RM 140 was credited when I booked the restoration. The photos in the service file are something I'll keep with the watch indefinitely.

DETAILED ACCOUNTS

Three Cases in Brief

CHALLENGE

1960s Dress Watch, Unknown History

An inherited slim Swiss dress watch running 90 seconds fast per day. A previous workshop had fitted the wrong crown size. No service records existed.

WHAT WE DID

Overhaul with Crown Sourcing

The movement was overhauled. An appropriate replacement crown was sourced from a Swiss heritage parts supplier and fitted with client approval on the style choice.

RESULT

+3 sec/day, Correct Crown

Timing: +3 seconds per day. Correct crown for the reference. Three-week timeline including parts sourcing. Total: RM 620 overhaul + RM 85 crown.

CHALLENGE

Split-Seconds Chronograph, Lever Failure

A collector's split-seconds chronograph had stopped engaging the second register correctly. A coupling lever spring had fractured.

WHAT WE DID

Restoration, Spring Re-fabricated

The complication module was photographed throughout disassembly. The fractured spring was re-fabricated. One early-wear pivot was addressed during gear train audit.

RESULT

Fully Functional, 31 Photos

All functions restored. Timing: ±5 seconds per day. Photographic service file — 31 images — delivered with the watch. Client noted it was the most thorough documentation received from any watchmaker.

CHALLENGE

Everyday Automatic, Deferred Two Years

A sports automatic losing 45 seconds a day, with a rough-feeling winding rotor. The owner had delayed service for two years.

WHAT WE DID

Assessment First, Then Overhaul

Intake assessment confirmed mainspring fatigue and worn rotor bearing. Owner approved the overhaul at RM 620 with the RM 140 assessment fee credited toward the total.

RESULT

+6 sec/day, Smooth Winding

Timing after regulation: +6 seconds per day. Rotor smooth. Returned in 11 working days. Total paid: RM 620 (assessment credited). Client said they wished they had come in sooner.
